We stayed in an AirB&B called Vashon View Cottage. The house was located on the north end of the island which had its pros and cons. The biggest pro was that it was close to the ferry terminal for our 1 am arrival. It was also off the beaten path for a quiet place to relax. On the deck outside, all you could hear was the wind in the trees and the birds chirping. The landscaping was beautiful and the view through the evergreens to the ocean was mesmerizing.

We stayed three nights and learned to navigate the public transportation to visit the coffee shop where Jim Stewart started his coffee company (now better known as Seattle’s Best.) The place was closed when we visited, but the owner saw us standing outside and invited us in. Super friendly. It was cloudy and rained occasionally the first day but was clear for an e-bike ride on day 2. We rode 20 miles and toured the east and southern parts of the island.
We left Vashon Island this morning and went to Seattle for the day. This week has been a great first week of Sabbatical. In our Sabbatical plan, we scheduled time to “release” from work. Getting away and staying busy really helped to turn our minds away from work.

We are excited about some upcoming trips that will be less busy and have more of an opportunity to begin our reading and reflection.
